Cardiac ultrasound is a medical imaging test that uses ultrasound to study the anatomy and function of the heart and its structures: the heart valves, chambers and pericardium. It also aims to establish the heart muscle's tonicity.

Why have a cardiac ultrasound
- To confirm the cardiac origin of symptoms such as shortness of breath, chest pain or discomfort;
- To assess the impact of certain diseases on your heart such as hypertension and pulmonary hypertension or the impact of certain medications.
- Diagnose a heart defect or heart muscle disease (cardiomyopathy).
- Diagnose and assess the degree of heart failure.
- Observe or estimate heart valve abnormalities (valvulopathy).
- Observe the presence of a blood clot.
- Follow the evolution, and estimate the severity, of an already diagnosed heart condition
- Observe the pericardium (envelope surrounding the heart or thoracic aorta)
- Study congenital or later-onset heart defects.
