Examination

An ultrasound consists of exposing the tissues or organs that you wish to observe to ultrasound waves. It requires no preparation and is non-invasive and painless.
A cardiac ultrasound, which lasts from 10 to 30 minutes, is done transthoracically, that is, the probe is placed on the chest (the patient must be shirtless), after the application of a gel that facilitates the propagation of ultrasound. You will be in a supine position, but the doctor may ask you to turn on your back or side to better visualize certain structures.
There are no side effects following this examination.
